Windstring is a 12HP filter bank module based on the Serge EQ design, featuring a central knob for selecting filter channels by rotation
The ten input jacks in the CHANNEL section allow external signals to control the on/off state of the corresponding frequency channels. When a high voltage is present, the channel is opened; when low, it is closed. Inserting a patch cable into a channel jack removes that channel from the module's internal control.
These select which one of the ten channels is open. Turning the central Wind Knob sweeps through the ten filter channels, opening the selected one and lighting up its corresponding LED.
When a signal is input to Wind CV, the selected channel changes according to voltage, simulating the effect of “swaying in the wind.” The attenuator next to the CV input adjusts the influence of the control voltage, allowing you to set a desirable range of movement.
Two audio inputs are available. The signals are mixed and passed through the filter bank to the final output. Each input has its own attenuator knob.
Outputs a trigger pulse each time the selected channel changes. PULSE WIDTH adjusts the duration of this pulse.
Outputs the final processed audio signal.
Controls the amount of feedback. Increasing feedback can drive Wind String into self-oscillation, producing sound even without input. Changing the selected channel alters the timbre of the self-oscillation. At higher feedback settings, the output signal will start to clip, creating distortion effects.
Randomly opens a small number of channels simultaneously. This can be triggered by pressing the RANDOM button or via CV (high-level pulse). Both the number of channels opened and which channels they are will be random.
Resets the randomly opened channels. This can be triggered by pressing the RESET button or via CV (high-level pulse). After reset, only the channel currently selected by WIND remains open.
When connected to the optional 2HP expander, the following features are available:
Short press or CV high-level signal (< 3 seconds) locks the currently selected channel (via WIND) in the open position. You can rotate WIND to lock multiple channels in the open state.
Long press or CV high-level signal (> 3 seconds) locks the selected channel in the closed position. Multiple channels can also be locked closed. Locked channels are not affected by RANDOM.
When WIND selects a locked channel, the LOCK LED lights up, regardless of whether it's locked open or closed. Pressing the LOCK button or sending a CV high-level signal again will unlock that channel.
This feature allows Wind String to act as a high-pass, low-pass, band-pass, or band-stop filter.
Pressing the button or sending a CV high-level pulse changes the RANDOM zone:
